Label Guide for Domestic LPs
Images
So just what is
a "Usable" image. There are two types of usable images. The
first is one that will be of high enough resolution and clarity that
it can be used as an image in the final printed book. And the second
is one that only needs to be clear enough to determine what pressing
it is.
Here are the requirements:
- All images must
be in color - even B&W labels must be photographed/scanned in color.
- Each image must
be a complete image of the entire label. An image that will be used
in the book must be clear enough to be able to read all the print. An
image that will be used for reference only need only be clear enough
to be able to determine the pressing.
- The format of each
file can be any of the following: JPG, PNG, BMP, GIF, PSD, or TIFF.
The preferred formats are JPG for reference only files & PNG or
lossless JPG for images destined for the final book.
- The images that
will be used in the book must be "straight on" images and
not taken from an angle. Those that will only be used as reference need
not be taken straight on but they should still be of the entire label
and readable.
- The resolution
of an image that will be used in the book should be at least 300 DPI.
An image that will be used as reference only should be at least 72 DPI.
- The naming of each
file should follow a set pattern although we will do the naming work
for you if your images are already created. Please check out the naming
convention here.
From time to time we will be posting requests for specific images.
Most of these requests will be for copies of label variations that we
do not have and are looking for high quality images that will be included
in the final book. To see a list of the current needed images, click
